uh, mrs. law, did you know you have a warrant out for your arrest?

that's what the sherrif's officer asked me when he pulled me over this morning! No Joke! so here's the whole story:

last december i got a speeding ticket in south jordan. long story short, i thought jon paid it and he thought i had paid it. so they sent me a bunch of notices in the mail, but they all went to our old address since i hadn't updated my address with the dmv yet. (honestly, i just thought i could wait until my license expired to update my address. i didn't think they really used it for anything!) so a couple of weeks ago i went to renew my license and am shocked to hear that my license is about to be suspended! so i call the south jordan court to find out how much the ticket was so i can pay it and the lady says, "let me have you talk to the court officer so you can work out payment options." so i asked her "why do i need payments? wasn't it about $100?" "well," she says, "it originally was, but we've had to issue a warrant for the failure to appear and that added $300." WHAT!!! a warrant? like a real warrant where i could be arrested if i get pulled over?!?!? oh my gosh! so i tried to talk to the court officer, but he didn't answer or return my call (this was last thursday) and i had planned on trying again this afternoon.

my plans, however, lurched forward suddenly when i was pulled over this morning for not signaling and not having a front license plate! luckily, the officer was really cool and decided not to arrest me today and i got off with a warning to take care of the license plate thing and the warrant. WHEW! so i drove away not knowing whether to laugh or cry, so i did both! man, it was crazy!

and the best part is, i was on my way to a job interview for the court system and they have to run a background check...a warrant always looks good, rigth? ah geez! anyway, that was my comedy for the day!

i hope you are all having a good laugh and a better day than mine started out to be! i guess i should apologize to my dad for giving him a near heart attack (he's a justice court judge in weber county) when i called him to seek his council. :)

Whew! Way to avoid the arrest. Good thing you're hot, that always helps get off with just a warning!! :)

Aly,

I always knew that you had a dark side. The first tree house girl to be arrested award goes to Alyso Law. Sorry for the jokes I can't beleive you actually had a warrant out for your arrest. I think I would have done the same as you cry and laugh, probably more crying. Well I hope you know now to signal and not speed anymore (that's the mother coming out of me). Anyways good luck on your payment options. $100 ticket how fast were you going?
